Thousands of kilometers of locals in the Kingdom of the Czech Republic will not be forgotten in defiance of vandals.
On July 25, 2014, Rokytnice in Orlické hory experienced an unusual event. A replica of the plaque commemorating the 1,000th kilometer of local railways in the Kingdom of Bohemia was unveiled in the railway museum there.
Until September 2010, a commemorative bronze plaque hung at the portal of the railway tunnel in Pěčín on railway line 023 from Doudleb nad Orlicí to Rokytnice in the Orlické hory Mountains, reminding that the thousandth kilometer of local railways in Bohemia was completed at this place on September 20, 1906. whose construction was guaranteed by the then Regional Committee of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The author of the plaque was Czech sculptor and painter Ludvík Herzl (1877-1944), co-author of the decoration of the Čech Bridge in Prague, author of the statue of St. Ludmila on the statue of St. Wenceslas on Wenceslas Square. The thousand kilometer plaque was entered in the state list of movable cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. It has survived more than a hundred years, both world wars, but the raids of "metal collectors" have not stopped. Although the thieves were caught and punished, the plaque was destroyed.
The town of Rokytnice and other municipalities along this line decided to have an exact replica of this commemorative plaque created.
Available documentation was collected to make a copy. For the purpose of obtaining funds for the production of a copy of the plaque, by Resolution No. 35/2012/V, the Council of the City of Rokytnice in Orlické Hory decided to announce a public collection. The Hradec Králové region and the state organization Railway Administration (SŽDC) also contributed, which ensured the production of a replica of the original plate and casts from it. Their creator was Petr Kolářský.
