Memorial stone of Emperor FJ I from 1908
Today, Ludvíkov pod Smrkem is a local part of Nové Město pod Smrkem and is approximately 1 km southeast.
From the beginning of the 20th century, there was one more important monument in Ludvíkov, unfortunately no longer preserved and not even commemorated today. It stood in front of the Ludwig School until October 17, 1908 and commemorated the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was a simple natural stone, according to the article I quote: "in the form of a pointed cone". He was 1 meter and 70 cm tall. It was placed on a square-shaped base with an edge of 1 meter. The entire monument used to be nicely decorated, it was protected by a chain link fence. He used to be maintained. A plaque on the stone read:
"In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the jubilee of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef I. 1848–1908" (in German: Zur Erinnerung an das 60 jährige Regierungsjubiläum sr. Majestät Franz Josef I. 1848–1908).
This table had to be removed after the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak Republic on October 28, 1918. Nothing was allowed to resemble the old Austro-Hungarian monarchy and its representative, the emperor above all. A plaque with the name of Hans Kudlich, a member of the Reichstag and a great fighter for the rights of small farmers, was later placed on the original natural stone (May 31, 1925).
The monument, later damaged, stood on the spot to the right of the Ludvík school until about the 1950s. Then, unfortunately, it was irretrievably destroyed and today nothing resembles its place. The unveiling ceremony of the memorial stone is described in detail in Novoměstské noviny March-April 2011.
