CDV- cabinet photo (abbreviated as photographic snake jako tzv. kabinetka) is an artistically conceived portrait photograph of individual people or entire groups, which was most often taken in a photo studio, with the entire shot being artistically arranged, often including an artificial background.

The developed photograph was usually black and white (possibly also colored) and was cropped to a cabinet (= small) format (typically 10 x 12 / 6 x 10 centimeters). It was usually signed by the given photo studio. This was usually done by additionally sticking the photo on cardboard with the photo studio's logo. Some cabinets were also created outdoors (due to the architecturally interesting background). Since 1866 the so-called "English cabinet" appeared, where the photograph was framed with a decorative oval-shaped border Kameje, rhombus, circle, ellipse, etc.
